Problem

Morgen's users asked in interviews and feature requests for a way to quickly view their team members' availability to smoothly book meetings.

Outcome

We shipped a new availability feature with quick team member access which received great love from users and improved Morgen's position as a team tool.

We scoped a 4-week project to frame, shape, and hand over a ready-to-build design covering various edge cases, variants, and design system updates.

Framing the problem

Based on user interviews and feature requests, Morgen's team has prioritized adding an availability feature to ensure Morgen will be perceived as a team calendar.

Together with Morgen's CEO and CTO, we framed the problem and shaped a blueprint of what should the feature look like.

To quickly uncover technical implications and avoid cool designs that would take too long to build,
I incorporated Morgen's CTO's technical knowledge into my shaping through a-sync communication.

I used product screenshots and whiteboard tools to communicate ideas quickly.

To help position Morgen as a team calendar, I wanted to visually show the user's team members in the default app view, and allow users to quickly see their team member's availability.

We explored multiple ways this intention could fit into the current app view.

Shaped function to design

After reviewing multiple designs and prototypes, we decided on one that fitted our timeline and engineering capacity.

Users can customize five quick access slots to view their relevant team members' availability at a glance.

Organic activation

To further support Morgen's monetization efforts, I designed an additional sidebar variant to let non-paying users get a feel for how "Morgen for teams" could be valuable to them.

Availability view

To allow for an easy read across both dark and light modes, the user's standard color-graded calendar turns black and white to highlight the selected team members' availability.

Going live

Our work was released as part of Morgen's latest big app update and is featured on Product Hunt.

Although I didn't have access to its post-launch data to measure the specific growth impact of the new availability feature, Morgen's user base and the product community continuously voiced great love for our work.
